Connect Odoo in three steps

Add the connector, link your account, then ask ChatGPT a question about your Odoo data.

Have these ready

Your Odoo website address, database name, version, and an API key. For Odoo 14–18, you also need your Odoo login.

Check account requirements and find your details
  • Your Odoo website must be reachable over public HTTPS and allow external API access. For Odoo Online, external API access requires a Custom plan. For other hosting, check with your administrator.
  • Your ChatGPT account and workspace must allow custom MCP connections. If you cannot see the option, ask your workspace administrator to enable it.
  • Use a dedicated Odoo user with access to only the records you need. Your administrator can confirm the database name and Odoo version.
  • To create a key, open your Odoo user menu → Preferences → Account Security → New API Key. Name it “Odoo Connection” and copy the key when it appears. Enter it only on our secure connection form.

    Add Odoo Connection to ChatGPT

    Open ChatGPT Plugins, select the plus button, then Add custom MCP server. Enter the details below.

    Select and copy this entire address.

    Name
    Odoo Connection
    Authentication
    OAuth
    Client registration
    Dynamic / automatic (DCR)

    No client ID or client secret is needed when automatic registration is selected. Review ChatGPT’s notice and continue creating the connection.

    Link your Odoo account

    ChatGPT opens the secure Odoo Connection form. Enter your details and API key, review the permissions, then choose Connect and return to ChatGPT.

    Start with read access. Creating or updating records needs separate permission. You can disconnect at any time.

    The connection form did not open

    Return to the custom connection you created in ChatGPT and choose its connect or sign-in action. Always start there so we can safely return you to the right ChatGPT connection.

    Ask your first question

    Finish any remaining confirmation in ChatGPT, enable Odoo Connection in your conversation, and try this:

    YOUR FIRST QUESTION
    How many contacts are in my Odoo account? Don’t change any records.

    Ask this in ChatGPT with Odoo Connection enabled. A count, even zero, confirms a live read from your account.

    Once that works, try “Show the names of five contacts.” You can explore sales or projects if your Odoo account includes those apps and permissions.

Need a hand?

Odoo could not verify my details

Check the database name and Odoo version. For Odoo 14–18, use the exact login associated with the key. Create a new API key if yours has expired or been revoked, and confirm external API access is enabled.

My Odoo website could not be reached

Use the public https:// address without /web or other paths. It needs a valid HTTPS certificate and must accept connections from this service. Ask your administrator if Odoo is available only inside your company network.

ChatGPT connected, but my question failed

Make sure Odoo Connection is enabled in the conversation. Check that the Odoo user can read the requested records and that the API key is still valid. A connected account can only access what that user can access in Odoo.

I need to replace my API key or disconnect

Open My connections to disconnect and delete the stored key, then reconnect from ChatGPT with a new key. You can also revoke the key in Odoo. To sign in here after revocation, use a valid key for the same Odoo user.

Technical connection settings and permissions

Odoo 14–18 uses XML-RPC; Odoo 19 or later uses JSON-2. OAuth setup is discovered automatically from the server address.

odoo:read permits reading records available to your Odoo user. odoo:write additionally permits creating and updating contacts, leads, sales orders, tasks, and timesheets after separate consent. Deletion and arbitrary Odoo method execution are not exposed.
